Death and resurrection in Paul

How did the earliest Christians view Jesus’ death and resurrection? What significance did it have for them? Any number of answers might be given to such questions – many likely to be soteriological, eschatological or otherwise theoretical in nature. Focusing on several texts in the Pauline corpus, in this session we will explore the dynamic ways in which the core themes of death and resurrection manifest in Paul’s letters: on the part of Jesus in the recent past, to be sure, but perhaps more surprisingly, how that foundational past continues to inform the present, lived world of believers.
