Who was jesus?
How do the gospel writers present Jesus to us? This is the question of ‘Christology’, which we will approach by looking at the major titles for Jesus in the gospels: Messiah or Christ, Son of God, and Son of Man. Where do these terms come from, and what do they mean? ‘Son of Man’ in particular remains an enigmatic term, but we can look at some possible sources for the phrase and what Jesus might have meant by it. Just as importantly, we will consider what the gospels have chosen to show Jesus doing: how do the miracles, healings and teaching, and his death and resurrection, work with the titles to show us who Jesus was?
